The Making of the Shot
Based on the client’s request, the main goal of this visual was to create a premium-looking, natural-feeling, and health-oriented atmosphere. The image needed to reflect both the product’s beneficial qualities and its high visual quality.
Lighting Setup:
- Main light: A soft, slightly warm-toned light coming from the upper left — used to highlight the bottle’s texture and gloss.
- Shadow play: Branch and leaf silhouettes projected onto the background — creating a natural atmosphere and visual depth.
- Background: A plain beige tone — keeps the focus on the product and reinforces the natural aesthetic.
Composition and Visual Elements:
- Placed on a natural stone: The product sits not on a flat surface but on a textured stone, symbolizing its “connection to the earth” and emphasizing its natural origin.
- Sea buckthorn berries: Physically placed beside the bottle to visually connect with the label, affirming the ingredients and adding a burst of color.
- Soft depth of field: The focus is locked entirely on the product — ensuring that the brand message remains undistracted and sharp.

Visual Principles for Photographing Natural Products:
- Clean and simple backgrounds — Avoid clutter that might distract from the sense of purity.
- Real textures — Use stone, leaves, wood, or other natural props to enhance the organic feel.
- Correct lighting — Avoid harsh or artificial tones; instead, go for soft warmth that reflects a healthy and trustworthy product.
How Should the Client Know What They Want?
A clear brief is essential for the photographer. However, sometimes the client isn’t sure what they actually want. In such cases:
- Ask the right questions: Who is the product for? Why is it good? What emotion do you want the image to convey?
- Show visual references: Offer different style examples and ask which direction appeals to them.
- Clarify brand values: If the product is natural, discuss how that naturality can be expressed visually.
Remember: A good visual isn’t just beautiful — it must also carry a message.
